Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day which as someone whose grandparents came to America from Ireland, is a special day for me. South Boston will hold its annual parade, and people will be celebrating the holiday with pride and vigor.
Unfortunately, some people don’t celebrate responsibly and end up causing personal injury to themselves and/or others. According to the National Highway Transportation Authority, roughly 700 were killed on St. Patrick’s Day from 2010 – 2016. Here are some tips for staying safe on this great holiday:
Get An Uber or Taxi
If you are going out and know you will be drinking, make sure to get an Uber or taxi. The advent of ridesharing has made getting a ride very easy and very cheap. Never drink and drive under any circumstances. Drunk driving-related car accidents happen more frequently on holidays, so stay safe.
Don’t Drink To Excess
If you are going to be out drinking at a bar, do not drink to excess. Even though bars and restaurants are prohibited from over-serving someone who is visibly intoxicated, they unfortunately do this all the time, even though it is illegal to do so. Make sure to control the amount of alcohol you consume, since many drinking establishments won’t do this for you.
Watch Out For Pedestrians
If you are going to be a designated driver, or if you are going to need to drive for some reason, be on the lookout for pedestrians. Many pedestrians tomorrow will be intoxicated and so be extra careful when driving. Many such pedestrian will not be using crosswalks so remain extra-vigilant at all times.
Watch Out For Cars
If you are a pedestrian try if possible to use crosswalks. Make sure to look both ways before crossing streets and never assume cars will stop for you. Also don’t look down at your smartphone when crossing streets as distracted walking is a major factor not only with car accidents, but also with slip and fall accidents as well.
Have Fun
Stay safe and have fun on St. Patrick’s Day. If legal questions arise, call the Boston accident lawyers at the Earley Law Group Injury Lawyers to learn about potential compensation you may be entitled to in the event of an accident.
