New Massachusetts Bill Aimed to Prevent Identity Theft

Massachusetts has taken a smart step in creating a law which would make it very difficult for identity thieves to obtain private financial information concerning unsuspecting victims. The bill would allow consumers to place a “security freeze” on their credit reports which would prevent phony accounts from appearing on their credit report.

In my opinion this is a huge win for the citizens of Massachusetts because it protects innocent people from the already widespread problem of identity theft. However, as these “identity thieves” become more and more sophisticated, it will be incumbent upon the Legislature to make new law to stymie the efforts of these thieves.
