1 killed in wrong-way crash along Route 6 in Harwich

HARWICH, MA – A 48-year-old Hyannis man died last Thursday in a wrong-way crash caused by a drunk driver in southeast Barnstable County, reports WCVB 5 News.

The accident happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. on US-6 near mile marker 84 in the city of Harwich. This is about 82 miles southeast of Boston.

Police say that one of the drivers, later identified as 49-year-old Zachary Fena, caused a head-on collision along the highway.

The driver of the other vehicle, identified as Mario Da Paixao Andrade, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Medics transported the wrong-way driver to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity. He was later arrested on multiple charges, including OUI, motor vehicle homicide, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

A full investigation is underway.
