WORCESTER COUNTY, MA – Two drivers had to be hospitalized early Monday following a two-vehicle collision on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Grafton, reports NBC Boston.
According to the Massachusetts State Police (MSP), the incident unfolded along a span of the eastbound turnpike (also known as Interstate 90) near Exit 96 toward Grafton Road. Troopers responded to the scene just after 1:00 a.m., where a tractor-trailer appeared to have run off the roadway and into a wood line.
Officials say they initially found the big rig vacant, but shortly after discovered the driver, who was unresponsive at the time of transport to a local hospital. The driver of a second involved vehicle was also taken to the hospital. As of this writing, the conditions of both patients remain unclear.
All eastbound motorists were forced to divert off the turnpike during the emergency response, but at about 5:00 a.m., all lanes had been reopened to normal traffic.
No pending charges or citations have been confirmed at this time.
