Ok, you have finally settled your accident case with the relevant insurance company and they send you a release to sign. Some people just sign and date these documents without even reading them. But, before signing the release you need to understand something: you are, by signing the release, relinquishing all rights to sue the persons that caused your injuries, as well as the insurance companies that insure those persons.
Assuming that you have handled your personal injury claim on your own, I strongly suggest that you bring the release to an attorney to have it reviewed. Paying the attorney to review the release can help to prevent you from signing a release that contains certain covenants and promises on your part which may come back to haunt you in the future. If you have been hurt in an accident and refuse to hire a lawyer to handle your claim for you, that is fine, but please, do not sign any release until you have had an attorney review it first.
