Eldrick Tont Woods, professional golf star who is better known as “Tiger” Woods, was involved in a car accident this past week in Southern California.
The one-car car accident Mr. Woods found himself in, was identified by authorities as a “roll-over” accident, which can be defined as the type of accident that involves a car rolling over, and can be quite dangerous to the passengers traveling in the vehicle. According to reports, Tiger Woods was in fact removed from his vehicle with the Jaws of Life, and has indeed sustained severe injuries to both of his legs.
While the cause of the accident is still under investigation, first responders find that the area, full of sharp curves and large hills, may have played a large role in the accident’s occurrence; meaning accidents like these, especially when the driver is navigating at high speeds, isn’t uncommon.
These types of accidents are extremely dangerous and are quite common here in Massachusetts. Regardless of how the roll-over accident occurred, if you or a loved one has been involved in this type of accident, especially at the hands of another person, you should seek legal help immediately.
Like in Mr. Woods’ case, these types of car accidents can cause strenuous injuries that may leave passengers with extensive lesions that may even require emergency surgeries or attention.
What Type of Compensation Is Available for These Type of Cases?
If someone negligently injured you in a rollover accident, you may be entitled to financial compensation. Some available compensation includes payment for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. The claim is presented to the insurance company for the at-fault driver. If the claim settles, that insurance company will pay the settlement, but if it does not settle, then a lawsuit needs to be filed and the case will need to be tried to verdict in front of a judge and jury. Sometimes these accidents are so severe that not only serious personal injuries result, but also sometimes post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) commonly results from these violent crashes.
When it comes to roll-over accidents however, it’s very important to keep in mind that the more serious the crash and injuries that result, the higher the settlement. No matter how serious the accident however, or the injuries that were caused, the most you will be able to collect is the maximum of the available insurance coverage available. Sadly, my office constantly sees the situation where the person that caused the crash only has the minimum available insurance coverage. Currently that bare bones minimum is only $20,000. This makes collecting for our client fair and full compensation nearly impossible, unless the at-fault operator has personal assets or money to fairly compensate you for your injuries.
